Local Fighters on Display at Gillette Stadium

Boxing has taken a hit in the area with the obvious popularity of mixed martial arts. Danny O’Connor and other local boxers are trying to turn that tide in the other direction for a sport that has lacked direction in the past twenty plus years.

I got the call to take in a three-bout card at Gillette Stadium on Sunday night for the first ever fights at the home of the New England Patriots and Revolution.

O’Connor was clearly the main draw, as the placed was packed with supporters in “Clan O’Connor” shirts, and the Irish colors were prominent all over the place.

Billy Traft, a Boston police officer in the gang unit, dominated his bout with a sharp left hand to deliver a first round knockout.

Here is the story for the Boston Herald about the fights at Gillette.
