A Pair of Young Players Trying to Make New England Patriots Roster

I got down to Gillette Stadium on Friday to check out Patriots camp for the first time this year, or as I’d like to call it, The Fortress.

I met with Josh Barrett, who was the starting safety alongside Patrick Chung for the first couple of games last season. Barrett is kind of in a tough spot right now on the depth chart and will most likely need a strong showing at safety and on special teams to make the roster.

Here is my story about Josh and his efforts to stick out in a few different areas – on and off the field.

Brandon Bolden has impressed a few people in camp so far in a very inexperienced backfield. He went to the same school as BenJarvus Green-Ellis — Ole Miss — and he’s trying to go the same route as the former 1,000-yard rusher as an undrafted free agent.

I  caught up with his former running backs coach, Derrick Nix, at Ole Miss to get the real story. The Patriots don’t give their rookies, or most of their players for that matter, the ability to really delve deep into their feelings about camp, so I thought it was a good idea to get a perspective from someone who knows Bolden best.

Here is the link to my story about Brandon and what his former coach thinks about his pro debut.
