From Near Defeat to a Victory Over an Old Nemesis

Colin Brennan was one shot away from having his Mass. Amateur Championship ended in a blink of an eye on the 19 th hole of his opening match against Matt Bianchini.

Brennan pulled his tee shot underneath a tree on the first hole at Tedesco Country Club, but hit a low shot up and onto the green with a stinging 8-iron from 146 yards away to birdie the hole and win his opening match play round. The 23-year-old from Andover kept up his steady play in the afternoon with a victory over Frank Vana Jr., a two-time winner of the Mass. Am who also just so happened to “wax” Brennan five years ago in this event.

Here is my story — with a video that has my first professional voice over — from today’s Boston Herald about Brennan’s victory over Vana Jr. to advance to the quarterfinals.
